The lovely hidden cafe that proves Stoneybatter is a tasty part of Dublin

Stoneybatter is home to many a wonderful business serving food, drink and excellent vibes to the local community.

One of those businesses is Outcasts. Located in the yard outside Clarke City Arms pub, the cafe serves up coffee, tea and their main offering, mouth-watering bagels.

After Stoneybatter was named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by culture bible Time Out, Dublin Live paid a visit to the area to check out one of the spots beloved by locals. We chatted to one of Outcasts owners, Ben.

"We were trading in Baldoyle for the last year. I have a lot more plans for the yard; a market place, live music, all that kind of stuff," he told us.

"Myself and my business partner Jack realised there was a gap in the market for bagels in Dublin. It's hard to get a New York style bagel."

Bagels on the menu at Outcasts include The Teriyaki Kawasaki (with Teriyaki glazed pulled chicken, ginger and spring onion mayo, smoked white cheddar and pickled cucumber, carrots and cabbage) and The Buffalo Bill (pulled Irish chicken breast marinated in buffalo sauce, pickled celery, cucumber and chilli relish, and blue cheese sauce)

Ben revealed that Outcast's most popular menu item is perhaps the Big Boi Bagel. The Big Boi Bagel consists of maple and mustard glazed hand carved ham, smoked gubbeen cheese, pickled red cabbage and Dijon mayo.

The Spuddi-Udi-Dopalicious is also popular and is made up of Irish spuds, sautéed onions, chorizo, smoked black pudding, scrambled egg yolk and Too Savage spicy mayo.

Stoneybatter was listed 49th in Time Out's list of coolest neighbourhoods in the world earlier in the week. The north Dublin suburb was praised for its sense of community that "isn’t replicated anywhere else in the city".

Businesses in the area that were recommended for Time Out readers to visit included Frank Ryan’s or Mulligans for pints as well as the Vietnom food truck, which boasts "some of the best street food Dublin has to offer".
