Pat Cummins will take on the captaincy of Australia's one-day international men's side after Aaron Finch stepped down from the role.
Cricket Australia has confirmed the swap after Finch relinquished the captaincy last month during a form slump.

Overnight: Chief Mouser unbothered by UK government descending into chaos
As we heard earlier in the blog, there's some pretty serious stuff going on with the British government.
The good news is, Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office Larry isn't particularly bothered.
Larry has shared 10 Downing Street with five different prime ministers since he was named Chief Mouser in 2011.

Coming up: Uncle Jack Charles' state funeral is today
A state funeral service for actor, musician, artist and respected Elder Uncle Jack Charles will be held from 2pm AEDT today.
The state funeral will take place at the prestigious Hamer Hall and will be live-streamed — including to Victorian prisons, where Uncle Jack volunteered to support inmates.
"The State Funeral Service will be an opportunity for Victorians to pay tribute to Uncle Jack and his contribution to the arts and community," the Victorian government says.

Just in: Milford and Doueihi face the music
Lebanon and Wests Tigers five-eighth Adam Doueihi and Samoa and Newcastle Knights halfback Anthony Milford both look like they'll miss out on their second-round Rugby League World Cup matches over incidents in round one.
Milford, who's off to the Dolphins next year, was charged with Grade A dangerous contact for a late tackle on England's Sam Tomkins.
Doueihi was sent off for dissent halfway through Lebanon's loss to New Zealand and charged with Grade A foul and abusive language to a match official.
France beat Greece 34-12 earlier this morning.

Overnight: Liz Truss apologises after massive tax cut U-turn
British Prime Minister Liz Truss says she accepts responsibility for mistakes in the government's financial strategy since she took office.
Ms Truss was speaking in her first BBC interview since new finance minister Jeremy Hunt announced what's been described as the biggest-ever U-turn in British economic policy — scrapping "almost all" of Ms Truss' previously-announced tax cuts.
I completely acknowledge that there have been mistakes," she told the network.
"I have acted swiftly to fix the mistakes. I've been honest about what those mistakes were and what we now need to do is move forward and deliver for the country, that's ultimately what people care about."

BBC: Your colleague Charles Walker said you have got a maximum of two weeks before you are removed from office. What would be your message to him and others on your own benches who are saying things like that?
LT: My message is we should be focusing on delivering for the British public. We are in difficult economic times, we are in difficult international times with the war being perpetrated in Ukraine. And now is the time to focus on delivering, making sure that we are delivering on our energy package. So before we stepped in, people were facing energy bills of up to £6,000. ICYMI: Another upset in the T20 World Cup
How come cricket doesn’t rate?

Cricket absolutely rates, I can just only type so fast — who tipped Scotland to beat the West Indies in the T20 World Cup group stage? Because I did not.
Scotland won by 42 runs last night in their first match of the tournament, with Zimbabwe also claiming a 31-run win over Ireland.
Namibia and the Netherlands will face off this afternoon, both coming off first-match wins, with Sri Lanka up against the UAE later tonight.
Also overnight, India secured a win over Australia in a behind-closed-doors warm-up match at the Gabba.

Just in: Shehan Karunatilaka wins Booker Prize
Sri Lankan author Shehan Karunatilaka has won the 2022 Booker Prize for his novel The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida.
The novel is a mix of satire, ghost story and whodunit set in 1989 during the Sri Lankan civil war.

ICYMI: Man seriously injured in Hunter Valley plane crash
Ambulance New South Wales says a fiery plane crash in the Hunter Valley yesterday was complex and confronting for paramedics.
A pilot in his 40s from Hinton crashed in a Cessna plane at Luskintyre, near Maitland, close to several homes.
The plane exploded and the man suffered severe burns to 80 per cent of his body, along with multiple broken bones.
He was placed in an induced coma and the Hunter's rescue helicopter took him to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
The man was the only person on board at the time, and the cause of the crash is not yet known.

Overnight: Ye agrees to buy social media platform Parler
Social media service Parler says it has entered into an in-principle agreement with Ye to acquire the platform.
"The acquisition ensures Parler a future role in creating an uncancellable ecosystem where all voices are welcome," Parler said in a statement.
Screenshots have been shared on social media of Parler announcing this news to "VIP" users in an email — but CC'd everyone instead of BCC'ing everyone, causing a mega reply-all chain.

Overnight: Ukraine's president reports more drone strikes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russian forces had launched a new wave of drone attacks, alleging some of the unmanned aerial vehicles had been shot down.
Russia fired dozens of drones at a number of cities during morning rush hour on Monday, killing at least four people in a Kyiv apartment building.

Just in: Karim Benzema wins men's Ballon d'Or
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has won the 2022 Ballon d'Or over the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Sadio Mane and Kevin De Bruyne.
Benzema, who played a pivotal role in Real's run to the Champions League title last season, is the first French player to win the trophy since Zinedine Zidane in 1998.
Zidane presented the award to 34-year-old Benzema at the ceremony.

Overnight: Russian fighter plane crashes into apartment building
Authorities say a Russian fighter plane has crashed into a residential building in the southern city of Yeysk.
Russia's RIA news agency cited local emergency services as saying four people had died and six were missing.
It's understood dozens more have been injured.
The state-owned news agency said the crash took place during a training flight from a military airfield and quoted the defence ministry as saying the pilots had reported that an engine had caught fire on takeoff.
At least 17 apartments were affected by the fire, and about 100 residents were evacuated.
Russia's state Investigative Committee says it's opened a criminal investigation into the incident.

Developing story: More (yes, more) wild weather still to come
Much of Australia's east is facing more wet weather today, meaning large parts of areas already affected by severe flooding aren't out of the woods yet.
The northern Victorian town of Echuca is on high alert for its second major flooding event in less than a week as the Murray River threatens to break its banks, and while water levels have begun to recede in parts of nearby Shepparton, it's still at major flood levels.
Forbes, Tilpa and Warren in New South Wales are still dealing with significant flooding and warnings are in place for the Barwon and Darling Rivers, Macquarie River, Bogan River, Lachlan River and Murrumbidgee River.
The BOM said earlier that minor to moderate flooding is still current in Tasmania but will continue to ease in coming days.
A severe weather system has been forecast to move into western and central Queensland today, bringing significant thunderstorms with the possibility of strong wind gusts and hail.

Coming up: Queensland's health minister to meet with traumatised mums
Queensland's Health Minister Yvette D'Ath is expected to meet today with women who have been traumatised by treatment in the Mackay Base Hospital obstetrics and gynaecology department.
A recent review into the operations of the Women's Health Unit at the hospital found inadequate care contributed to the deaths of three babies, and many women have sustained life-long physical and mental harm.
Ms D'Ath says the forum will give the impacted women another opportunity to share their stories and get updates on their options for compensation or further clinical advice.
