Hi. It's Monday, May 30 and you're reading The Loop, a quick wrap-up of today's news.
Let's start here
The Liberal and National Parties have decided on their new leaders and deputies after the Coalition's election loss earlier this month.
ICYMI:
- Peter Dutton is the new leader of the Liberal Party, replacing Scott Morrison
- Sussan Ley is the new deputy, replacing Josh Frydenberg
- David Littleproud is the new leader of the National Party, replacing Barnaby Joyce
- Perin Davey is the new deputy, replacing David Littleproud
Mr Littleproud defeated incumbent leader Barnaby Joyce and former minister Darren Chester in a three-way contest to lead the Nationals, and Mr Dutton was elected unopposed.
Former PM Scott Morrison expressed his congratulations to both Mr Dutton and Ms Ley, saying he believes they'll "do an outstanding job".
Barnaby Joyce also congratulated the new leadership team for the Nationals, releasing a statement that opened with: "I suppose you think I am sad. Not really."
