The looming Clement Rangers decision ahead of Europa League new squad deadline

Philippe Clement will face a selection puzzle as he registers his Rangers squad for the next stage of the Europa League.

Rangers bypass the knockout play-off round to take a spot in the round of 16 after securing a top-eight finish in the revamped league phase of the competition.

However, Clement will still have to submit his 25-man Rangers squad list for the knockout stages later this week.

UEFA rules state clubs can make three changes to their squad after the league phase of the tournament.

However, Clement will have some big decisions to make on his squad with the likes of Danilo, Ianis Hagi and Clinton Nsiala not in the initial list.

January transfer signing Rafael Fernandes is also not registered for the Europa League.

Clement cannot add all four players to his squad as UEFA rules read: "After the completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition.

"Such registrations must be completed by 6 February 2025 (24:00 CET) at the latest."

Kieran Dowell will be one of the players to drop out of the squad having left Rangers on loan last month.

The Ibrox midfielder joined English League One side Birmingham City until the end of the season.

It is unclear who else could be removed from the squad list for Rangers but Nana Kasanwirjo has been ruled out for a significant period so could be a possible omission.
