The Lodge At Edgewood Tahoe Is A Much-Welcomed Addition To Lake Tahoe

Inside Edgewood Spa

On the south shore of Lake Tahoe toeing the state line between Nevada and California sits the Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe. Opened this past June, the 154-room modern chalet situated on prime lakefront property is a bit of a game changer for the destination. Unlike some of the other hotel options in the area, it has neither a dull casino nor the accompanying scent of stale smoke lingering in the air. There’s also no hint of outdated cabin vibes to be felt, either.

Instead, guests are greeted with 38-foot floor-to-ceiling windows in the bright and airy lobby, where a limestone wall hand-carved with tree trunks meets a grand staircase and geometric chandeliers hang from the vaulted ceiling. Fire pits, and plenty of them, dot the grounds and bring the heat on cold winter nights. There’s even a heated outdoor pool (open year-round) that overlooks the crystalline lake and snow-capped mountains. But to really cap it all off, the hotel was granted LEED Silver status this past January, making it a model for sustainability in the area. It’s truly a departure from what many vacationers are accustomed to in South Lake Tahoe, and certainly a much welcomed one.

The Grand Room

All of the rooms and suites, characterized by dark wood and blue tones, feature in-room gas fireplaces and a balcony or terrace that overlooks either the lake or George Fazio–designed golf course. The Presidential Suite is certainly the ultimate prize, with its formal dining room and grand view of both the pool and lake, but there’s also something to be said of the Edgewood Suite, where guests are given 1,000 square feet of space and can sink into a handsome leather couch in the separate living room.

To help guests travel around the vicinity easily, the hotel offers an on-demand shuttle service using Mercedes-Benz vans. One of the most popular drop-off points is Heavenly Village, where a gondola lift whisks skiers and snowboarders away to the powdery slopes of Heavenly Mountain. And despite Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe not being a ski-in/ski-out resort, the team has done their best to match the experience by offering a ski valet (complete with boot dryer).

Once you’ve done a few runs and are ready to relax, retreat to the 8,500-square-foot spa. While there are a mix of salon services, facials, and body treatments available, the massages are truly remarkable. Tailored therapies for pre- and post-golf are thoughtfully offered, but if you’ve taken a beating on the slopes, the sports massage will help work out knots and stretch out those tired muscles. It’s, quite frankly, the perfect excuse to make an appointment.

Edgewood Restaurant

And once it’s time to grab a bite, there are four dining options to choose from. In the main building there’s the on-the-go Coffee Bar, where pastries baked in-house are available for purchase and guests staying at the hotel can pick up complimentary s’mores kits (PSA to peanut butter fans: ask for Reese’s instead of Hershey’s) for an après-ski roasting, as well as the Bistro, an all-day dining venue with a bar and outdoor seating that’s available in the warmer months. In the adjacent clubhouse you’ll find Brooks’ Bar & Deck, an upgraded sports bar open from Thursday to Monday that offers pub fare as well as Edgewood Restaurant, the property’s crown jewel. The dinner-only establishment boasts some of the best dining views in the area with its floor-to-ceiling windows framing the glistening lake and Sierra Nevada Mountains. Make sure to time your reservation to sunset and enjoy the show.
