The little-known Netflix alternative that does not cost you a penny

Netflix prices will rise on 20 May for every person who is currently an account holders.

Basic and standard plans have increased by £1 per month to £6.99 and £10.00 respectively, and the premium subscription will increase by £2 to £15.99. With over 14 million UK subscribers it could see a large number decide to cancel their account amid the UK's biggest cost of living crisis in decades.

Netflix is not the only streaming service to raise prices. Rival service Disney+ has increased prices from £5.99 a month to £7.99 a month for UK subscribers.

Meanwhile, Amazon charges £5.99 per month for a Prime Video subscription or you can get it as part of a Prime subscription that also opens up access to Amazon Music and free delivery when ordering items via the Amazon Prime service. However, there is another little-known section of Amazon that offers free films and TV series and all you need to do is sign up.

Amazon owns film website IMDB and in 2019 launched a free TV service on the site. Last month it rebranded to Amazon Freevee and it is currently available on the Amazon website. The service is free and includes TV series such as Sinbad, Bosch: Legacy and Hell's Kitchen. It also includes documentaries on everything from wildlife and nature to the life of Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

The service is available on the Amazon website here and offers a cost-free alternative for those who no longer want to pay for their Netflix subscription.

The service should not be confused with Amazon Prime Video. Amazon Prime is a subscription service priced at £7.99 per month or £79 for the entire year. There are discounts for students and if somebody in your household has a subscription there are also family discounts that can cut the cost. There is also a free trail available that allows you to sign up for Prime completely free for a month.

Amazon Prime was originally launched to allow customers of the site to get extra delivery options. Prime users can get next day - or even same day - delivery on anything with a Prime label on the site. It also offers free delivery for those items.

In recent years Amazon has expanded what you get through Prime. It now gives you access to Prime Video - Amazon's answer to Netflix - and shows such as The Grand Tour. It also includes sport documentaries such as the All or Nothing series featuring Spurs and Manchester City. Sports fans will also be able to watch 30 Premier League games in December after Amazon secured the rights to broadcast them.

Prime users also get access to some Kindle books and other freebies throughout the Amazon website.
