The little-known Glasgow museum that true crime fans will love

People with a passion for True Crime will love one of Glasgow's lesser-known museums.

Hidden away in the Merchant City, the award-winning Glasgow Police Museum is located on Bell Street, between Candleriggs and Albion Street and is home to loads of fascinating artefacts from over 200 years of the city's history.

While the majority of the museum is dedicated to the UK's oldest police force (which predated even the Met), with little-known facts and displays dedicated to the stories of some of the city's most impressive characters who worked for the constabulary.

You'll find the uniforms, equipment and weaponry wielded by the polis over the centuries and the medals given out to those who went above and beyond duty.

However, as with all things relating to the justice system, there are two sides to the coin, and the Museum also provides guides to some of the most infamous criminals and cases that shocked the city.

Cases such as that surrounding the hunt for Bible John, the lesser-known and perhaps even more horrible serial killer Peter Manuel and the explosive incident involving James Griffiths, the first criminal killed by a Scottish police officer in the execution of his duty.

Peaky Blinders fans will also recognise the tales and photos of Glasgow's own razor gangs, while others will be intrigued by the chase to find the Stone of Destiny after it was stolen by some Glasgow students in the 60s.

Run by volunteer members of The Glasgow Police Heritage Society, including ex-officers, some of whom are on hand to answer your questions, the museum is a fascinating way to while away a few hours.

The museum is free to enter, though donations are welcomed, and open daily (Mon-Sat 10 am until 4.30 pm and Sun 12 pm until 4.30 pm).

A Tripadvisor Traveller's Choice Award winner, it's a true hidden gem and well worth seeking out for those with a curiosity for all things True Crime.
