Sure, it’s an obvious joke to make after Aaron Rodgers spent part of his offseason going on what was called a “darkness retreat” in which he sat in the complete dark for four nights.
But when the lights went out during the Hall of Fame Game in Canton for a brief delay in the first NFL preseason game of the season between the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, everyone made the same joke, from Mike Tirico on NBC to everyone on Twitter.
