The Leader podcast: What now for Rwanda Deportation policy?

The first flight due to take asylum seekers from the UK to Rwanda under the government’s new deportation policy has been cancelled last night.

It was called off because of a last-minute intervention from the European Court of Human Rights, blocking the removal of those who’d been scheduled to be on the plane.

Ministers have described it as a ‘temporary set-back’ in their plans, and remain confident a second flight will leave the UK soon.

We speak with Frances Swaine, a solicitor from Leigh Day representing one of the people due to fly out on the deportation flight about what happens next, and how her client is coping.

Plus the Evening Standard’s Political Editor Nicholas Cecil examines what this latest drama means for the government, and considers what Boris Johnson’s next moves might be.
