As Veganuary 2023 comes to an end, The Leader podcast has been on a tour of the facilities at lab-grown meat company Ivy Farm Technologies, to look at what might be the future of the meat industry.
Ivy Farm Technologies was set up in Oxford in 2019 with the aim of creating real meat without the need to farm, grow and ultimately slaughter millions of animals.
The start-up takes a small sample of stem cells from a pig, then creates the optimal conditions for the cells to grow, while feeding them nutrients.
In this episode we speak with Head of Cell Sciences Rowan Rimington about the lab process they use to create the meat.
We also speak with Chief of Product Dr Emma Lewis about cooking with their products, and CEO Richard Dillon discusses the benefits of cultivated meat, and how soon it could start being sold in restaurants.
