All NFL mock draft season long, we’ve seen the buzz about J.J. McCarthy and how the Minnesota Vikings with their two No. 1s in 2024 could trade up to grab the Michigan QB.
In our latest NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he has the Vikings getting McCarthy and North Carolina’s Drake Maye going No. 3 overall. But in the latest mock from ESPN and Matt Miller, he’s got the Vikings trading up to No. 3 with the Patriots to take … Maye!
Then? He’s got the Broncos trading up to No. 4 to take McCarthy. Here’s his take on the Vikings drafting Maye in this scenario:
Maye is a big-armed and mobile, with the tools to thrive under coach Kevin O’Connell. With a star left tackle in Christian Darrisaw, arguably the league’s best receiver in Justin Jefferson and a very good WR2 in second-year player Jordan Addison, the Vikings’ offensive supporting cast is perfect for a rookie quarterback. Maye is raw, and in many situations it would be best for him to sit and learn for a year, but the Minnesota structure could get him on the field early. He has thrown for 7,929 yards and 62 TD passes over the past two seasons.
