Artificial intelligence continues to take things in pop culture and make them … weird.
We saw how people used AI to turn some very famous epic movies into Wes Anderson versions which, while funny, is kind of disturbing. We’re seeing the beginnings of AI’s power, whether it’s in words with ChatGPT or otherwise, and it’s already wild.
The latest trend: Taking famous paintings like the Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and asking generative AI to expand it beyond its frame. I also saw it with album covers, and people on Twitter are getting really mad about it.
Take a look at all this:
1. Ever wonder what the rest of the Mona Lisa looks like?
Got @Adobe Firefly to help fill out the background for me with the power of AI

2. This was inspired by @leebrimelow's first version of AI-expanded Starry Night: here's my version!

finally, a version of the Mona Lisa that gets away from that damn lady blocking the center of the frame https://t.co/qRTnE2jnvz

The stupidest answers to questions nobody asked. There is no "rest of the Mona Lisa", it is not a snippet of a larger thing that Da Vinci failed to depict because of his human limitations. I thought this was obvious https://t.co/sf5cZRUhua

The phrase “the rest of the Mona Lisa” is MEANINGLESS. It’s like saying “ever wonder what the rest of your shirt looks like?” and then adding 20 FOOT SLEEVES https://t.co/VUFUk8XQHG

They figured out the rest of the Mona Lisa and it turns out she was in a tar pit pic.twitter.com/0tGeAyiq4I

I’ve been alive for 11,526 days and never once wondered what the rest of the Mona Lisa looked like because there isn’t a “rest of the Mona Lisa” https://t.co/ML7nfGdRMe
