Given all the speculation about where Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy is going, this is one spot that might surprise some people.
In our latest 2024 NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he’s got the New England Patriots trading down with the Minnesota Vikings, who take QB Drake Maye. McCarthy ends up at No. 5 with the Denver Broncos in that situation.
But in the latest mock from NFL.com’s Charles Davis, he’s got the Pats sticking at No. 3 and taking McCarthy, which means Maye drops out of the top 10 and gets to the Vikings at No. 11. Here’s what Davis had to say about it:
SURPRISE! I was convinced for a while that New England would be the future home of Drake Maye, but now I’m questioning that line of thinking. In this projection, after the Pats entertain a bunch of trade offers, they ultimately choose to “run history back” in a sense, selecting another Michigan man to lead them … albeit 196 draft slots higher than where they took Tom Brady nearly a quarter-century ago.
