The Last of Us fans have been left "terrified" after Sunday's episode introduced the Clickers, with some saying the show's zombies made their skin crawl.
Players of the hit-video game are currently enjoying the brand-new HBO series and have praised the show's zombies as being the best in TV history.
The monsters in The Last of Us aren't your average slow-moving, dribbling zombies. Not only do they move at highspeed, they also mutate as the parasitic fungus, cordyceps, takes over.
The creatures begin as Runners, who tend to move around in large groups, before becoming Stalkers around two weeks after being infected. At this point, the fungus starts to sprout from their bodies.
At the third stage of the infection, the zombies become Clickers which are arguably the scariest yet.
The fungal growth completely takes over the infected person's head, blinding them while simultaneously heightening their hearing and spatial awareness.
At the start of the second episode, the Clickers are just a series of ominous screeches in the distance.
However, viewers later see them attack Joel (Pedro Pascal), Tess (Anna Torv), and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), experiencing for themselves their disturbing movements and chilling clicking noises.
"The clickers in the second episode of The Last of Us were terrifying. Oh man this show is good," one person tweeted after watching the show.
Another said: "The zombies in The Last Of Us are really the most disgusting of all works combined," while a third fan added: "The way these zombies look on ‘The Last of Us’ make my skin crawl."
Praising the design of the creatures, one viewer commented: "The last of us series really made the most terrifying zombies in tv history."
"Forgot how scary the zombies look in the last of us," penned another.
Viewers also said they were "traumatised" after watching Sunday's episode.
Spoiler alert, fans watched Tess die after she was bitten by a Clicker, a twist that ever so slightly differed from the game.
Tess' death scene finished as she locked lips with a Clicker after being bitten and then infected earlier in the episode.
She tells Joel and Ellie to continue without her before helping them escape the museum building.
Once her friends are free, Tess sets fire to the building using a lighter, killing herself and a room full of Clickers in the process.
The Last of Us airs Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
