The Last of Us: Sneak peak of Nottingham actress Bella Ramsey in action in new HBO series

A rare insight into the filming of Nottingham's very own Bella Ramsey in a new TV show has been given ahead of launch. The 18-year-old is most notably famed for her role in Game of Thrones and she has since landed a huge new gig with HBO in recreating hit video game series The Last of Us.

The video game was initially released on the PlayStation 3 console to immense success. The story follows smuggler Joel, who will now be portrayed by Pedro Pascal (Narcos, Mandalorian), and a teenager called Ellie, who will be portrayed by Bella Ramsey, in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a fungus which takes over the human brain.

It is soon revealed Joel must smuggle Ellie, following a heart-breaking prelude 20 years prior, out of a quarantine zone and across the USA to a group called the Fireflies. During their journey it turns out Ellie is in fact immune to the fungus, which has turned much of the world's population into highly aggressive and terrifying 'infected'.

It is believed this group could develop a cure with Ellie's help, and the tale follows the pair as they battle for survival to reach their goal, developing a special relationship as their journey goes on. Neil Druckmann, the co-president of video game developer Naughty Dog and co-creator, executive producer, writer, and director of the show has now released a new image from the forthcoming drama series.

In the image Bella, as Ellie, hides behind a table with Pedro Pascal, as Joel, as a fungus-ridden infected prowls a dark room. The infected in question is known as a 'clicker', and can only detect someone's presence through sound, similar to a bat.

Bella is known for her mettlesome performance as Lady Lyanna Mormont from the HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy novels. In 2019, Bella was honoured at the Nottingham Post/Nottinghamshire Live's 30 Under 30 awards, which celebrated some of the brightest young adults who had been weaving their way into the city's star-studded fabric.

She has remained close to the city of Nottingham despite her acting success, visiting schools in St Ann's to talk about her journey as well as attending the city's Television Workshop to hone her skills. The series has yet to receive a release date.
