Rumors of The Last Of Us getting remade have floated around for more than a year now. In April 2021, Bloomberg broke the story that several internal studios at PlayStation are working on the project, and we could be playing it much sooner than expected.
On Wednesday, well-known journalist Jeff Grubb spoke about The Last of Us remake during this week’s episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast (Thanks, Gamesradar).
“I keep hearing that’s coming out this year,” Grubb said. “I think it probably is one of [Naughty Dog’s] big holiday games this year.”
Sony hasn’t given any official word on whether or not The Last of Us is being remade yet, but given how many trusted sources are talking about it, there’s little room for doubt. More evidence of its existence came by way of a Naughty Dog job posting last fall. More recently, a QA tester working at the company listed an “unannounced remake project” on their Linkedin profile as well.
While most think of The Last of Us as contemporary, it came out almost ten years ago. Many believe the second game has much better combat, so maybe Naughty Dog’s true vision will shine through in the remake.
