While we’re still waiting to check out the second season of The Last of Us, HBO’s letting us know there’s plenty more where that came from — because it’s officially been renewed for season three.
The Emmy-winning series will continue after its highly anticipated second season that drops this week on April 14 and boy, the initial reviews are already looking pretty damn good.

“It can’t be overemphasised how proud HBO is for the outstanding achievement we believe the second season of The Last of Us is,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president, HBO programming, giving a shout-out to the whole team for a “masterful follow-up”.
“We’re thrilled to carry the power of [creators and executive producers] Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann‘s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.”
Showrunner Mazin agreed that the end results of season two have “exceeded even our most ambitious goals”, with the crew looking forward to continuing the story of The Last of Us with season three.
What will be The Last Of Us Season 3 be about?
In case you haven’t jumped on the zombie/dystopian bandwagon with this one, The Last of Us is based on a hugely popular video games of the same name.
It stars Pedro Pascal as Texan smuggler Joel, who was tasked with transporting 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsay) across a post-apocalyptic US.
He takes her to a lab working on a cure for the fungal frenzy that’s ravaged the world — but, as you can imagine, things don’t exactly go according to the plan.

The latest season is set five years after the events of the first season and the cast includes some pretty big names, including Gabriel Luna, Kaitlyn Dever, and even a guest appearance from Catherine O’Hara.
We don’t have any details (yet!) about what to expect from a third season, or when it will be released, but creators Mazin and Druckmann have previously teased the series will need a few more seasons to really get through all the juicy bits of the game.
For now, I’m just counting down the days to April 16 to binge season two on Max.
