ITV'S Bradley Walsh 'halts' This Morning to shut down rumours of The Larkins axe

Bradley Walsh used his appearance on This Morning on Tuesday to shut down that his The Larkins isn't coming back for a new series because it 'flopped' in the ratings and has been axed by ITV.

A spin-off of much loved early 90s series The Darling Buds of May, which starred Only Fools and Horses legend David Jason as Pop Larkin, made its debut on ITV in 2021, with Bradley stepping into David's shoes as Pop, with Joanna Scanlan following in the footsteps of Pam Ferris, to take on the role of Ma.

The cast also included Lydia Page, Sabrina Bartlett and Tok Stephen, with The Larkins first series attracting an average audience of over five million and series two, which aired last year, suffering a ratings drop, as figures dipped to just over four million.

And earlier this month it was reported that ITV were ready to drop The Larkins due to its lower than expected viewing figures and rumours of squabbles within the cast. with a source telling The Sun: "The Larkins is going to be dropped in the new year - the writing is on the wall.

“The ratings for series two were disappointingly low and cast disagreements on set have been an ongoing problem for the production team."

Bradley addressed the speculation surrounding The Larkins when he appeared on This Morning, alongside son Barney, to talk to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about the new series of their show Breaking Dad.

After Bradley and Barney teased what's to come from upcoming episodes, Holly informed viewers that Bradley wanted to 'clear up and clarify' about The Larkins not coming back, to which Bradley responded: "I've had a few calls that it (series two) might be the last, because of some problems with viewing figures. Viewing figures are absolutely fine; there's no problem with viewing figures. In comparison to the first series they all went well."

Giving his explanation on why there are no imminent plans to shoot any more, Bradley added: "It's a 14 week shoot. I haven't got time to do this year, I don't have 14 weeks. So it's down to me, not anything else. We're trying, at the moment, to get something together to do a special. So that's what it's all about."
