Betting against LeBron James is something I would never advise.
Betting against LeBron James when he has four other former All-NBA teammates and another former MVP? That’s just insanity … until it isn’t.
One bettor was crazy enough (or smart enough? … clairvoyant?) to bet 10,000 big ones before the start of the season that James, Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers would miss the playoffs. And after struggling all season, the Lakers were finally eliminated from postseason contention Tuesday following a loss to the Phoenix Suns, meaning that bettor made out huge!
The payout on their $10,000 bet was $160,000, according to Bleacher Report.

The impressive part about this bet is that it was placed in early September, a full month before the start of the season. The Lakers had already mostly assembled their roster, including the acquisition of Russell Westbrook, which was thought to push them into contender territory.
The Lakers had some of the shortest odds to win the NBA championship and this bettor went the complete opposite direction altogether, predicting that they would miss the playoffs. And there was never really a time in the season the bettor needed to sweat this one out, considering the Lakers struggled from the beginning.
