The key numbers behind Erling Haaland's Man City move

Manchester City have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this summer. The 21-year-old had been linked with moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid but will join City on July 1 providing the two parties can agree on personal terms.

Haaland will cost £51million which is considerably less than his release clause of £64m. It’s believed that his salary will be worth around £375,000-a-week which would put him level with City’s current top earner Kevin De Bruyne, to bring the full cost to around £81m .

Haaland currently wears the No.9 shirt at Dortmund and for Norway but Gabriel Jesus is in possession of that particular number. However, the Brazilian forward has been linked with a summer move but if he does remain at the Etihad, 19 is available.

The Sky Blues have been in need of a striker since Sergio Aguero left the club at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, and have played for much of the season without a recognised centre-forward after failing to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane last summer. However, Haaland arguably represents better business for Pep Guardiola's side.

The Dortmund star has scored an impressive 85 goals in 88 appearances for the Bundesliga giants and is still yet to reach his peak. Haaland is also seven years Kane’s junior, offering longevity and re-sale value over the Spurs striker.

His signing will be seen by many as the last piece in the jigsaw to allow Guardiola to deliver the one piece of silverware to have eluded him during his time at City, the Champions League. Haaland boasts an impressive record in European football's elite club competition of 23 goals in 19 appearances and could well prove to be catalyst to bring finally bring the trophy to the Etihad.
