The Kebab shop that has just been named the best in Wales for the third time

A Caerphilly kebab shop has once again been named the best in Wales, having scooped the top prize for the third time. At an awards ceremony in London, Wales Kebab of Abertridwr won the award of Best Kebab House in Wales after previously winning it in 2019 and 2021.

There was strong competition from nearby Sam's Grill House, as well as Cardiff kebab houses Golden BBQ, Jasmin Restaurant, Lezzet Cardiff and Pizza Choice. Other nominees included Mold's Yiannos Fish Bar Mynydd Isa and Mold Kebab Burger & Pizza House, and Pontypridd's Choices Express and Tonypandy's Silver Lounge Takeaway.

Jimmy Guzel, owner of Wales Kebab, said: "We are proud, and very happy, to be the best kebab house in Wales for the third time. There are so many kebab shops out there... I think the food, the quality, and the service we provide is unique, and our food hygiene rating has been 5* for the past 10 years."

Jimmy said the event was "massive," adding: "We have been going since about 2015, it’s a very big event in Westminster. You get your local MP there, and messages from political parties and ministers."

The awards dinner is always well-supported, with even the Prime Minister himself voicing support for the event. In a statement, he said hospitality played a "critical role" in the British economy, and that "kebabs are as much a part of our culture and heritage as fish and chips and curries, reflecting our broad diversity and our nation’s love of food."

Wales Kebab’s menu features more than 13 different varieties of kebab, including a huge house special kebab (£23) which incorporates lamb shish, chicken shish, kofte, doner, chicken doner, fried mushrooms and onions, salad, pitta bread and sauce. However, if kebabs aren’t your thing then they also serve pizzas, burgers, wraps and fried chicken.

A huge banner celebrating the first of Wales Kebab's awards adorns the front of the shop, and Jimmy said the 2023 award would be proudly displayed in the shop. Well-wishers on Wales Kebab's Facebook page called the win "brilliant" and "well deserved," adding: "Won't go anywhere else! Well done all."
