The Irish actor behind Bridgerton villain Nigel brilliantly responds to hate

With Bridgerton smashing all kinds of records on Netflix, millions of viewers have been introduced to some top Irish talent in the series.

Of course, Nicola Coughlan swapped her school uniform of the lovable Claire in Derry Girls for the fancy frock of Penelope Featherington.

But that's not the only link between the two shows, as Waterford actor Jamie Beamish has a lead role in the early episodes of the hit series.

Playing the dastardly Lord Nigel Berbrooke who tries and fails to woo Daphne (leading to a black eye) has seen Beamish take a LOT of hatred and anger on social media.

He playfully respond to criticism of his character, using the hashtag #everybodyhatesNigel, and there are some truly epic clapbacks.

Including but not limited to:

A duel off with Lord Voldemort

A sly dig at the last President of the US

There was a third who compared the dastardly Berbrooke to 'a toe'.

Sharp as a tack, Beamish responded in kind with: ''Now you say it, there have been a lot of toe fetishists sliding into my DMs recently...''

He even had some international anger sent his way, though he didn't exactly need a translator.

Bridgerton has smashed Netflix records as the steamy period drama raked in an incredible 82million views from fans all over the world.

The popular TV series made its debut on the streaming giant on Christmas Day and it was predicted to project 63millions views within the first month of its release.

But the flirty show, featuring the likes of actress Phoebe Dynevor and hunky actor Rege-Jean Page, has gone above and beyond, with the 1800s Regency London drama bringing in more than 80million viewers.

Something which didn't escape the eyes of Beamish.
