Much ink has been spilled and will yet be spilled about legendary Boston Celtics big man Kevin Garnett’s shooting, defense, passing, and even trash talk as integral parts of his championship-caliber game.
But we would be remiss without the singular thread tying together all of those talents. The South Carolinian’s intensity, which more than any other aspect of his larger-than-life personality, transformed a scrawny 7-foot kid fresh out of Farragut Academy into one of the most feared and respected players of his era. From headbutting stanchions and asking to be taken out of a game because his emotions were too high, to knuckle pushups midgame, KG was never one to hold anything back.
Driven like no other, Garnett is now ensconced in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. Let’s take a look back at this aspect of his game that was the fuel to carry him to such greatness.
