The incredible Rangers Euro semi final clean sheet record that offers shutout hope for RB Leipzig

Rangers will play their sixth European semi-final at Ibrox on Thursday as they host RB Leipzig in the Europa League.

The German side travel to Glasgow with a one-goal advantage over Gio van Bronckhorst 's side.

It means that the Light Blues have it all to do if they want to secure their place in the Europa League grand finale – and while there's no longer the away goals rule to worry about they'll still need to keep it tight at the back.

And if previous European semi-finals are anything to go by, Rangers are in with a pretty good chance.

The Ibrox side have not conceded a goal at home in their last five semi finals in Europe - a record dating all the way back to 1961.

If Rangers manage to keep a clean sheet this week and score a couple up the other end they could be making history in Seville.

Here's how the other semi-finals turned out.

UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: Rangers 2-0 Wolves (1960/61)

Goals from Alex Scott and Ralph Brand during the eagerly-anticipated Battle of Britain saw Rangers advance to the UEFA Cup Winners Cup Final.

In front of an 80,000 strong Ibrox crowd, Scott Symon's side kept a clean sheet and managed to take a convincing lead to Molineux for the second leg of the tie.

After a 1-1 draw away from home, the Light Blues became the first British side to reach the final of the competition but were beaten both home and away by Italian side Fiorentina.

UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: Rangers 1 - 0 Slavia Sofia (1966/67)

After bringing a 1-0 victory back to Ibrox following the first leg in Bulgaria, Rangers kept another clean sheet at home.

Willie Henderson netted the only goal of the tie with the back line shutting up shop again.

The Light Blues lost out on the title after they were defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich after extra time.

Inter-Cities Fairs Cup: Rangers 0-0 Newcastle United (1968/69)

Another goalless tie at Ibrox helped Rangers take a credible score line down to Tyneside.

But the second leg wound up a bad night for Rangers in more ways than one.

They lost the tie by 2-0 at St James' Park and fans responded to the defeat by invading the pitch.

UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: Rangers 2-0 Bayern Munich (1971/72)

Rangers got their own back on Bayern Munich after a defeat in the Final in 1967.

A goal from Sandy Jardine inside the opening minutes put the Light Blues in front before Derek Parlane doubled the lead.

In front of a huge home support, Rangers' success saw they secure their place in the final against Dynamo Moscow.

William Waddell's Ibrox side went on to lift the trophy.

UEFA Cup: Rangers 0 - 0 Fiorentina (2007/08)

A goalless tie at Ibrox back in 2008 stood Rangers in good stead for the second leg away to Fiorentina.

Zero goals after four hours of football then saw the semi-final go to penalties.

Ranger went on to win 4-2 in the shoot out to bag their place in the grand finale.

But it was one step too far this time as they were beaten by former manager Dick Advocaat's Zenit St Peterburg side in Manchester.
