The Inbetweeners star says reunion talks have 'happened in various forms'

The Inbetweeners could be making a return to the big screen, a decade after their last film.

Joe Thomas, who played Simon in the hit sitcom and films, revealed that discussions about reviving the iconic comedy have "happened in various forms."

The Inbetweeners originally aired as a TV series from 2008 to 2010, chronicling the misadventures of four awkward teenage boys. It was followed by two successful films in 2011 and 2014.

British actor Thomas admitted that he and his co-stars—Simon Bird, Blake Harrison, and James Buckley—are all open to the idea of reuniting.

“We all think it would be nice to do,” he shared.

During an appearance on the Always Be Comedy podcast, the 40-year-old discussed potential ideas for an Inbetweeners reunion.

One concept floated for the comeback is a trip to Las Vegas, following the group’s previous adventures in Spain and Australia. Another suggestion was having the characters reunite as adults through a five-a-side football team.

However, he admitted that another TV series might be tricky due to the timeline, but a movie could work with the right premise.

“You'd have to have a very, very clever device for doing another series," he said. “A movie, I think works with the right idea. It would be challenging to do another series, just because of the timeline. But with the film, there are all sorts of options."

Thomas also acknowledged the pressure of living up to the original success and shared: “Everybody’s anxiety would be, 'Will it be as good?' That’s the big question we’d be facing.”

While they mull over possible ways to revive the series, the TV star revealed that the main cast members were still friends, despite not working as a quartet for a decade.

“We're all still here, and we all still enjoy each other’s company," Thomas explained.

“If the opportunity arose, I think we'd be up for it. We've all taken time to explore other projects and prove things to ourselves outside of The Inbetweeners, but we still have a lot of love for the show and each other.”
