Since the news that a feature film follow-up to beloved crime drama Peaky Blinders was announced in December, fans of the show have been guessing who from the series’ cast will be returning.
In June, writer and creator of the show Steven Knight said the film – which is reported to begin filming this month – will be an “explosive chapter” in the story with “no holds barred”.
No release date has yet been confirmed.
The TV series, which follows the colourful exploits of a gang in Birmingham after the First World War, spanned six series, scooped numerous awards and became a critical and commercial success after debuting in 2013. The final series aired in 2022.
Now, Netflix and BBC Film have announced who from the series will be returning for The Immortal Man, as well as revealing more information about the movie’s plot.
“I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II,” Knight told Netflix. “The country is at war and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
So who’s returning for the film - and which new faces are joining the cast?
Cillian Murphy
Murphy’s portrayal of gangster Tommy Shelby transformed the Irish actor into a household name when the series debuted. The 48-year-old is also known for starring in last year’s Oppenheimer, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Murphy was announced to be reprising his role as Shelby for the film back in June, with the actor telling Netflix recently: “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This one is for the fans.”
Barry Keoghan
The 31-year-old BAFTA Award-winning actor is a new name associated with the film, having not appeared in the series prior. As well as featuring alongside Colin Farrell in the acclaimed black comedy
The Bandhsees of Inisherin in 2022, Keoghan’s starring role as serial killer Oliver Quick in Saltburn made for one of the most talked-about movie moments of last year.
Stephen Graham
Star of Line of Duty and Boiling Point, the 51-year-old told Deadline that he’s “looking forward to seeing the lads again” to film the movie. Viewers will remember Graham’s appearance in the sixth series of the show, where he played Hayden Stagg, a union convenor at the Liverpool docks.
Graham has remained tight-lipped about any other details concerning his appearance in the film.
Sophie Rundle
Its been announced that Rundle, who has appeared in crime thriller After the Flood and historical BBC drama Gentleman Jack, will reprise her role as Ada Thorn, the sister of the Shelby brothers.
Ned Dennehy
The 58-year-old Irish actor plays uncle figure Charlie Strong in the series and has been confirmed to be returning for The Immortal Man. Aside from Peaky Blinders, Dennehy has featured in crime series Luther, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 and heist drama Culprits.
Packy Lee
Making a name for himself for his portrayl of loveable rogue Johnny Dogs, Packy Lee is another star confirmed to be returning for the film.
Ian Peck
A fellow member of the Peaky Blinders, Curly – who is played by Ian Peck – is another member of the original Peaky Blinders cast named as appearing in The Immortal Man.
