The hottest temperatures forecast in Wales today as country set to see record-breaking 37C+

Wales is set to see record-breaking temperatures today in the midst of a rare amber-alert heat warning. The alert - in place from Sunday, July 17 until Tuesday, July 19 - saw many people head to the beach over the weekend.

People are reminded to take care, however, with the Met Office describing the amber alert as "a hot spell is likely to develop from Sunday, leading to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure." These impacts include health issues such as sunburn or heat exhaustion (dehydration, nausea, fatigue), increased risk of water safety incidents, localised power cuts, and delays to rail and road travel. You can read all the latest updates on the extreme heat on our live blog.

Transport for Wales has already issued a warning to those travelling on its service today, as there is a strong likelihood that journey times will be increased and some short-notice alterations to services due to the heat. TfW is recommending customers stay hydrated by taking a bottle of water while travelling. Free water refill points are available at Llandudno, Machynlleth and Cardiff Central stations.
