With the holidays approaching it's more than likely you'll need activities to keep the kids happy.
And if you're anything like us you'll want to keep them off their computers and phones for a little while so heading to somewhere with plenty of nature will be in order.
New research has revealed that the Highlands are third in the UK’s top greenest outdoor areas for children list.
The study by childcare and education expert Little Ones London analysed TripAdvisor ratings and reviews of the UK’s top kid-friendly outdoor locations to unveil the ten regions with the best green spaces for children.
With 12 green outdoor venues for children and 2,407 reviews, it seems that the Highlands are the ideal place to head with your family this summer.
Speaking about the findings, a spokesperson for the firm said: "The mountainous region offers young ones five Nature and Wildlife Areas to explore, two national parks, two bodies of water, a forest, garden, hiking trail and a park."
The 12 main areas highlighted in the study were:
- Gruinard Bay
- Loch Shiel
- Reraig Forest
- Attadale Gardens
- Glenmore Forest Park
- Cairngorms National Park
- Shieldaig Falconry
- Handa Island Wildlife Reserve
- Glen Etive
- Highland Titles Nature Reserve
- Glencoe Lochan
- Lochaber Geopark Visitor Centre
The research found Cumbria, England, as the greenest area for children with the most natural venues – 15 in total.
The Little Ones London spokesperson added: “The UK is home to so much beautiful nature, and it’s great to see so many areas that offer families with little ones the opportunity to explore beautiful parks, wildlife areas and nature trails.
"In an increasingly tech-obsessed world, these spaces are a great way to disconnect from the internet and reconnect with nature.”
