The hidden ‘lagoon’ on the edge of Bristol that hardly anyone knows about

Exploring new places can be fun, especially when you come across an exciting hidden location. With the weather getting warmer, people have started to head back outside for long walks and hikes and it won’t be long until camping season is upon us either.

One Reddit user has recently shared a ‘hidden’ location they came across while out exploring the countryside on the outskirts of Bristol. The post read: “Found a hidden lagoon near Hanham,” with an accompanying photograph.

In the image, there is a large green pond with trees, bushes and rocks surrounding it. While it looks pretty, it’s generous to call it a lagoon and some in the comments section pointed out that the place wasn’t as hidden as the OP originally thought.

One commenter said: “It’s called dead man’s pond, it’s fairly easy to find if you use the dirt track at the end of the common road and walk down into the woods.” The OP replied and said: “Dead man’s pond is the one near the Elm Tree, no? This one is at the back of the common.”

A second commenter claimed the pond was called ‘Bee’s Pond’. Another said: “I threw many sticks and rocks in there as a child.”

Despite the debate around whether it's a lagoon, the location makes for a perfect day trip. Someone also mentioned that there is a secret tunnel not far from the pond as well that could be fun for exploring for those who hadn’t been before.

Another commenter wrote: “Looks really cool! People should be careful of letting dogs in there though, the green algae will make them really unwell.”

Those who hadn’t been before also expressed their interest in visiting the beautifully hidden spot. One commenter wrote: “I’ll check it out at some point, already been on a walk today.”

And Google reviewers were equally as impressed with the spot. One person wrote: "Very peaceful and poignant as it's where my dad was born, the pond is named after his family."

Another said: "Pond is usually dry unless there's been a prolonged period of heavy rain but this area is one of my favourite places to walk around. Lots of paths in all directions so I can take a slightly different route on each visit."
