Food bible the Good Food Guide has named two Manchester restaurants up for its Best Local Restaurants awards for 2023. The guide has relaunched the awards, which asks diners to nominate and then vote for the best ‘hidden gems’ in their area.
Among those nominated in the North West are Another Hand on Deansgate Mews, fellow city centre bistro and bar 10 Tib Lane and Stockport’s Bombay To Mumbai. The three restaurants were among a handful narrowed down from over 11,000 nominations in just its first week.
Nominations are still being taken for the annual awards, but both Another Hand and 10 Tib Lane have reportedly ‘shot out’ in front so far. Another Hand won Newcomer of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards last year, beating 10 Tib Lane, which was also up for Restaurant of the Year and Bar of the Year.

Restaurants nominated have to conform to criteria including being independently run; owned by the chef or a hands-on proprietor, offering regularly changing, seasonal menus at affordable prices, demonstrate strong relationships with local suppliers and are rooted in the local community.
Also named in the North West section are Next Door in Frodsham, Cheshire, and Four & Twenty in Penrith.
“Our readers are our most valued source for discovering brilliant restaurants and have been since the Guide was founded back in 1951,” Chloë Hamilton, managing editor of The Good Food Guide, said. “Despite tough conditions, the calibre of local restaurants in 2023 is higher than it has ever been, so we look forward to seeing what gems readers send our way.”
Nominations are still being taken for potential award winners at the Good Food Guide website. Those shortlisted will then be secretly inspected, with regional winners and the overall Best Local Restaurant being awarded at the end of June.
Previous winners of the award include Birmingham’s Carters of Moseley, which has gone on to be named among the best restaurants in the UK, and now boasts a Michelin star.
