Marizanne Kapp admits not having her wife, South African captain Dané van Niekerk, in New Zealand for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup is a massive blow to both her and her team. But the veteran allrounder is still confident South Africa can go all the way in this tournament starting on Friday.
Van Niekerk and Kapp are regarded as two of the best players in world cricket, and hold the record for the highest partnership for South Africa at a 50-over World Cup (128 runs set in 2013).
Kapp tells Jimmy Neesham and Kristy Havill how hard it will be to replace the leadership and skillset of van Niekerk, who's back at home with a fractured ankle. But the core of the touring side have almost a decade of experience behind them and she believes they're a stronger team than the South African line-up who made the 2017 World Cup semifinals.
Kapp also reveals why her strong faith has been tested over the last three years and what she's dreading when South Africa finish their 10-day MIQ stint.
