Almost half of Swansea's state primary schools were oversubscribed this year, figures have shown. Data from Swansea Council shows that 30 of the city's 74 state primaries had more demand from parents than the number of available places for September, 2022.
Cwmrhydyceirw Primary School had almost 100 preferences expressed despite only 65 places being available for the 2022/23 academic year, while Hendrefoilan Primary School had double the number of preferences (60) than the number of places (30) available.
The deadline for applications for parents to send their children to primary schools in Swansea for 2023/24 was November 25 with decisions issued on April 17. In schools which are oversubscribed, the council has criteria for how it allocates places, which includes prioritising looked-after children, pupils living within the catchment area and those who have siblings in the school.
