After a long, laborious wait (nine months; I’m just impatient), season four of the Emmy Award-winning series Hacks is finally on the horizon.
Comedy queens Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder will be back on our screens as chaotic showbiz legend Deborah Vance and her chief writer, Ava Daniels.
What’s the plot for Hacks season 4?
If you thought tensions between the two creatives couldn’t rise any higher, in season four, the tumultuous nature of their working relationship reaches boiling point as they strive to get Deborah’s newly acquired late-night show off the ground.
In case you need a reminder, season four kicks off after Ava pulled some big moves to secure her role as head writer on Deborah’s show. You see, despite dreaming of the lead writer position, Deborah told Ava that position had been filled. However, Ava discovers that this was a straight-up lie. While she decides to stay on in the writing team because she knows it was the best move for her career, on their first day of the show’s production, Deborah finds Ava waiting for her.
Ava threatens that if she isn’t made head writer as she was promised, she will tell everyone — including the press — that Deborah slept with Bob Lipka (Tony Goldwyn), the owner of the television network. As Deborah is the first woman to hold a coveted spot as the host of a late-night show, the ‘sleeping her way to the top’ narrative would severely impact her career.
So, she bites her tongue and gives Ava what she wants, but now, they have to work together. JUICY!!!!
