The Great Escape 2023: the major Brighton festival, with a 500-act line up including Yonaka and Coach Party

Over 140 acts have just been added to the already jam-packed line-up of The Great Escape (TGE), a major musical festival that’s taking place in Brighton this spring.

The acts that have been announced include alt-rock band Yonaka and British rock group Coach Party, rap artist Songer, indie act The Goa Express and singer Moonchild Sanelly, and they’ll be joining a thrilling roster of musicians that includes Maisie Peters, Arlo Parks and The Pretenders.

With 500 emerging artists on the bill, and with gigs taking place at over 30 venues across the city, it’s not one to miss if you like discovering incredible new music just before artists blast into the mainstream.

Tickets are on sale now, which means that if the festival sounds like it could be your cup of tea, there’s also still time to get on board.

When is the festival happening?

The festival is taking place in just over a month now (yes, time has flown and it’s officially spring). The Great Escape runs from May 10 to May 13.

Who is playing?

With as many as 500 acts from around the world in the line-up, we won’t list them all here. But some of the standout musicians set to play include Sweden’s 7ebra, France’s Aime Simone, Norway’s Ash Olsen, Canada’s Cam Kahin, Ireland’s David Kitt, Australia’s Eliza Hull and Austria’s Farce.

Other acts include Vlure, The Native, Jazmin Bean and Modernlove, The Big Moon, Sad Night Dynamite, Willie J Healey, Blondes, Slant and Yot Club.

Where is The Great Escape taking place?

The festival is spread out in 30+ venues across Brighton (but all within walkable distance).

How can you get tickets?

Tickets are, happily, still available and can be found here.

One day tickets cost from £40, weekend tickets cost from £80, and 3-day festival tickets can be bought from £105.

Anything else to know?

Because the festival is all about who is going to be the next big thing in music, the festival is attended by a tonne of industry insiders. And so to bolster the performers, TGE runs a conference alongside the gigs. There are also keynote speeches, panels, debates about the music industry and, as the festival puts it, “networking opportunities in abundance”.

There’s also The Late Escape, which is a special late night electronic music event which runs alongside the main festival on May 12 and 13. The late night dance festival is open to TGE 2023 Wristband holders for free (subject to capacity), which means that the party doesn’t have to stop after the end of the festival.
