The Graeme Souness to Rangers rumours addressed as it’s revealed Ibrox giants have held meeting with icon

Graeme Souness will NOT be returning to Ibrox as Rangers sporting director or fronting a takeover, according to a report.

But the Light Blues legend DID meet with Rangers top brass “to discuss working together in future”. Speculation has gone into overdrive that Souness was on the brink of a return to the club on some capacity. The rumours ranged from a takeover to filling the sporting director role vacated by Ross Wilson’s recent exit to Nottingham Forest.

The 70-year-old sparked a revolution at the club when he was appointed player-manager in 1986 and last month’s stepping down from his role with Sky Sports has seen talk of a potential return to Govan which has intensified in recent days. But talk of Souness succeeding Wilson or attempting a club buyout – having failed in his bid alongside businessman Brian Kennedy in 2012 – has been cooled. The Heart & Hand Rangers podcast tweeted: “Souness Rumours – he’s not fronting a takeover (there is no takeover) and not joining as a DoF or anything like that.

"Club met with him to discuss working together in future on things but that’s as far as it went at moment. GS loves Rangers and wants to help where he can.” When pushed on the future plans, one of the club’s media partner replied: “Ambassador-type role, maybe some RTV, that sort of thing.”
