The Google Maps tip that will make your next holiday abroad so much easier

A TikTok user has shared a clever way to use Google Maps which makes planning your next trip away easier.

In the 60-second video, Tiktoker @jessicawantanap explains how she creates her very own map of the city she's travelling to. From there, she adds all the attractions she's interested in visiting, as well as restaurants and bars.

She then uses this map to decide on where to book a hotel - and uses it as an itinerary for the trip, helping her navigate around more easily. The video has had more than 900,000 likes on the social media platform, with fellow TikTok users branding the idea 'amazing.'

Jessica explains in the video, titled' The most practical way to plan a trip,': "Ever since I started doing this, I can't look back. First you're going to figure out how to get to the city or place that you're going, but don't book an AirBnB or hotel yet. You are going to make a Google Map first".

She then shows viewers how to create one, by searching for 'Google My Maps' and selecting 'Create My Map'. She then adds the attractions and activities she'd like to try to the map - many of which she's discovered through TikTok - as well as bars and restaurants. "Definitely pin your transportation too because sometimes you really do want to be next to the train station or airport".

Next, she advises doing a Google search of the recommended areas to stay in that area and compare those to your map. "Now you know where the best place to stay is based on want you want to do," she explains.

She adds that it's helpful to more easily plan your days out while on holiday. It's also useful to see which attractions you're near to why wandering out and about if you decide to deviate from the itinerary.

Many TikTokers were grateful for the advice. @seekatdo commented: "The way I've spent hours googling every address to see how close/far they were away from the hotel or attractions... THANK YOU" and @hao_lowcanyougo gushed: "Ma'am please kiss me because this is legit the best most practical travel advice I have come across on this app." @Chedgar_G added: "Let me just say, this is the first video I have ever added to my favourites lol".

Others claimed they've been using Google My Maps this way for a while, with @grace_lemire commenting: "Omg yes!! I do this with all my trips it's the best" and @emilyejohnsonn adding: "Ooh! I have always done this but just using normal Google maps and creating lists for each city. I like that you can organise these by categories!"
