The Paisley park with a model train you can ride, mini-dirt track, ice cream cafe and play park

As you know we are hugely fond of Glasgow's many amazing green spaces and one park in the southside just outside the city has to be up there with the best.

The hugely underrated Barshaw Park in Paisley is easily accessible from the city centre and offers plenty of fun activities to keep dog walkers, young families, groups of friends and couples entertained.

This massive park has plenty of space for even the most energetic of kids or dogs busy, with woodland walks, grassy areas and even a walled garden to visit.

Whether you enter via the main entrance or the car park end, you'll quickly see how popular it is, with a wonderful café (complete with a window to order a wee 99 cone or coffee) and numerous paths to navigate your way around the park.

Kids will love the huge play park and mini-dirt track (where they can bring their bikes to speed over the many bumps and dips) while at the weekends you'll even find a bouncy castle on offer and if you are lucky, the mini train track that's run by local volunteers that will see you taken around a track on the park's own mini train.

Those looking to stretch their legs can enjoy a wander through the wooded area or grab a seat by the pond – which is filled with more swans than any waterway we have seen in Glasgow – while a meander to the top of the hill will reward you with stunning views out over Paisley.
