The Giants say they were ‘agreeable’ to signing Shohei Ohtani to record-breaking $700 million deal

The San Francisco Giants tried everything they could to land Shohei Ohtani, according to team baseball operations president Farhan Zaidi.

Per The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly, Zaidi said this week that the Giants were “agreeable” to the same record-breaking $700 million deal that Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers this month.

Of course, Ohtani ultimately chose Los Angeles over San Francisco, but it sounds like the Giants at least gave it the old college try.

If you’re a Giants fan, that has to be devastating to hear that Ohtani just didn’t want to play in San Francisco with Los Angeles on the table.

However, you’d at least have to be glad they made a real attempt to sign the superstar? … Maybe?

Okay, we get this stinks for Giants fans, and it absolutely heightens the rivalry between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The Giants did sign prized outfielder Jung Hoo Lee on Tuesday to a big contract, so they’ve at least got that going for them.
