The Games' Christine McGuinness shares inspiring reason for doing ITV show

Christine McGuinness has shared her touching reason for signing up to take part in new ITV show The Games, as well as hinting at which sports she may do well in over the course of the next week

The Games originally started life on Channel 4 back in 2003, running for four series and seeing stars like Kirsty Gallacher, Phillip Olivier, Javine and Jade Jones emerge victorious, as Jamie Theakston and Jayne Middlemiss hosted. And now it's back as ITV pick up the baton and a new line-up of The Games contestants prepare to do battle across a host of different disciplines from sprinting to diving and weight lifting to cycling.

Having starred in The Real Full Monty just before Christmas, where she opened up about her autism diagnosis, former Real Housewives of Cheshire star Christine, wife of comic and host Paddy, will battle it out against other female celebs like Emmerdale's Rebecca Sarker and Love Island's Olivia Attwood in live events in front of crowds of fans and millions of viewers at home.

And, ahead of the launch episode on Monday, she spoke about the main reason for doing The Games, saying: "I’m taking part in The Games for my three children, who are my biggest inspiration. They just go for it with anything in life and they really inspire me. I've always been a bit scared, especially with sport.

"When I was at school I would never have put myself forward for the netball team or anything. I was that girl at school that never took part. But my children just do it. So because of them, they've inspired me to push myself out of my comfort zone and do something a bit different."

Christine also offered an insight into how training had been going and which sports she might excel in, adding: "My favourite event so far has been weights. I think I'm most comfortable with things that are slow and steady and quite strong. Speed is not my thing at all. I don't like anything too fast! So I am absolutely dreading the running. I know I am not a fast runner.

"It's hard to be enthusiastic about something that you know you struggle with. I know that's my biggest weakness but I’m here to give it my best shot."
