The second season of the HBO series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” has begun, and it focuses on the 1980-81 through 1983-84 seasons. That was the time period in which the Los Angeles Lakers looked to go from a team that merely won an NBA championship to one for the ages.
To tell the whole story of the Showtime era, there will have to be at least one more season of the show. But according to Jeff Pearlman, the author of the best-selling book the series is based on, the series may stop with its current season.
He tweeted that more viewership is needed for the series to continue.
I'm telling you — the future of "Winning Time" hangs in the balance. We need viewers. The strikes are crippling. Please help spread the word. Season 2 is amazing. But … HBO is big on #s. #winningtime pic.twitter.com/A8OTEi0Sog

And, to be blunt, I'm worried there won't be a season three. And it's not about me. I'm fine. It's about a cast of amazing young actors who live this. So, seriously, tell your friends to support "Winning Time" and show @hbo you want it to continue. Peace. #winningtime https://t.co/1KD2uKOY16
