Rochdale is set to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee in style with street parties being held across the borough. A late surge of applications from patriotic residents has landed in the council’s in-tray - and that’s on top of those already set to go ahead over the four-day weekend.
The festivities, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne, will take place from Thursday June 2 through to Sunday, June 5. Details have been released of where the street parties confirmed so far will take place - although council chiefs stress it is not the final list. There will be 18 roads closed for parties - eight in Middleton, six in Rochdale and two in both Littleborough and Heywood.
It’s not just at street parties where the jubilee celebrations go with a swing, however.With less than two weeks to go until celebrations erupt across the country, Rochdale has plenty of events lined up to mark the milestone anniversary.

The World Famous Black Dyke Band

In celebration of HM Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee the world famous Black Dyke Band and Wardle Junior Blast will provide a ‘scintillating evening’ with thrilling film scores, toe tapping big band music, and patriotic favourites.
The concert will round off with favourites from the Last Night of the Proms. Guiding Black Dyke Band through all the songs will be professional opera singer Tom Smith. Tom will also sing two songs with Black Dyke Band including Nessun Dorma.

Light a Beacon for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

As part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, authorities across the country are hosting a Commemorative Event to light a Beacon. The lighting of the Beacons on June 2 will be the first international, community event of Jubilee weekend, providing the unique opportunity of leading the special weekend of celebrations.
Rochdale Mayor Councillor Ali Ahmed along with the Queen’s Representatives (Deputy Lieutenants) will welcome all to Middleton Jubilee Park, for this free public event.

Street Eat Festival
The popular Street Eat festival is returning to Rochdale town centre to mark the Queen’s 70 year’s on the throne.
Food lovers looking to eat, drink and enjoy free entertainment should head to The Butts on Friday, June 3. A special edition of the event is being held to mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne.
Organised by Rochdale Business Improvement District (BID), Street Eat was held annually until the coronavirus pandemic, bringing together the town's food and drink establishments.
Tasty food from local restaurant chefs will be served with dozens of mouth-watering dishes all at £4.50 or less. Traders include Bombay Brew, Vicolo Del Vino, The Medicine Tap, The Flying Horse, The Baum, Uno Burrito, The Treehouse Bar, Bean, Bank Top Farm and Keep It Sweet.
There will be bars for the adults and musical entertainment including performances by local acts including Jackson Kay, acoustic guitarist Noel Fraser, popular duo Shenanigans and Turners Dance School.
Meanwhile, activities for children include Punch and Judy shows and a helter-skelter.

A 'fun filled' family event at Whitworth Valley FC Ground to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
There will be live music, food, drink, inflatables and ‘much more’. People are advised to bring their own chair/blanket as partygoers will need something to sit on.

Platinum Jubilee Party

St Andrew's, Dearnley will stage a Platinum Jubilee party, weather permitting outside in the Church grounds.
Delph Band and the choir from the Littleborough branch of the University of the Third Age will play lead roles in the party, which starts at 2pm with a ‘blast’ from the band, followed by a concert lasting for about an hour.
The choir will feature next, then there will be stalls, games, refreshments including scones, jam and cream, and plenty of red, white and blue.
Street parties and road closures
Despite the deadline for street party road closures having passed, forms continue to flood in from Rochdalians preparing to mark the milestone anniversary.
Applications are required so that authorities including bus companies and emergency services know which streets are likely to be blocked or hard to navigate, and that residents avoid potential safety issues, too.
Council bosses say that, with the April 17 deadline now long passed, there can be no guarantee any further applications for road closures will be processed at this late stage.
However, residents can keep the road open and organise a gathering or ‘Street Meet’ on private land, such as a driveway or front garden, without any requirement to fill in council forms.
All parties must be for the purpose of celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and held during daylight hours on this date. This is in line with national celebrations, referred to as the 'Big Jubilee Lunch'.
