Traffic across the North East may be impacted by roadworks during this coming week.
Some roads in the region will be closed while others will have temporary traffic lights put in place. Diversions may have been introduced as a result of the ongoing work.
The information below will help drivers to see which roads will be affected this week. They will be able to plan their journeys in advance or change their travel arrangements if necessary.

Here are the roads which are likely to be impacted by roadworks between Wednesday, January 4 until Wednesday, January 11.
Newcastle:
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on Hillhead Road at Northcote Avenue. Until January 4, 2023.
Traffic taking turns due to gas main work on Commercial Road at Raby Street. Until January 5, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B6323 Ponteland Road in both directions between A69 (Throckley Interchange, Throckley) and Stamfordham Road (High Callerton). Until January 6, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Shieldfield Lane at B1600 Stoddart Street in Shieldfield until January 28, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Union Street at Ingham Place in Shieldfield until January 28, 2023.
Strawberry Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks from Strawberry Place to St Andrews Street. From August 25 to February 23, 2023.
Rothbury Terrace in Heaton closed in both directions due to long-term roadworks from Heaton Road to A188 Chillingham Road. They will be in place until February 26, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on A186 City Road at Tyne Street. They are set to last until March 3, 2023.
Kingsway in Fenham closed in both directions due to roadworks between Fenham Hall Drive and Queensway. It will remain closed until March 29, 2023.
Saville Row closed due to roadworks from Northumberland Street to North Street. It will be closed until April 9, 2023.
Redheugh Bridge Road closed due to roadworks from Shot Factory Lane to A695 Railway Street until 12:47 on June 29, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1600 Stoddart Street between Shieldfield Lane and Union Street in Shieldfield. They will be there until December 28, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on Hillhead Road at Northcote Avenue. Until December 28.
Gateshead:
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Hawks Road at Mill Road on the Quayside. They will be there until January 17, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Hills Street at Wellington Street. Roadworks are being carried out by Network Rail. They will be there until 7pm on January 31, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on Greenford Lane at Gateshead. They will be there until March 10, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Cushy Cow Lane from Hexham Old Road to Mullen Drive in Ryton. They will stay in place until 5pm on July 3, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Hexham Old Road between Grange Drive and B6317 in Ryton. They will stay until 5pm on July 3, 2023.
Advance Warning - Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on White Mere Gardens at Moat Gardens.
Between 9.15am and 3pm Mondays to Sundays. They will remain there until 3pm on December 20.
Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50 mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass in both directions from J67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) to A1(M) J65 / A194M Birtley. Work is being carried out to create an extra lane in each direction. It will last until May 31, 2025.
Northumberland:
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Plessey Road at B1327 Union Street. Until January 5, 2023.
Advance Warning - Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Woodhorn Road in both directions at Maple Street. From 9.30am until 3.30pm on January 9, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on A197 Great North Road South near B6524. Until January 10, 2023.
Gas House Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks from B1337 Damside to Staithes Lane. Until 4pm on January 20, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A697 at B6344 at Longframlington until April 14, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to long-term roadworks on B6319 Ratcliffe Road near Church Street in Haydon Bridge. The lights will be in place while works are carried out on the bridge. They are expected to stay until January 21, 2023.
Ovingham Road closed due to gas main work between Main Road (Ovingham) and Horsley Turning (Wylam) until January 13, 2023.
North Tyneside:
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on A186 Station Road at Vine Street. Until January 6, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on Promenade at Edwards Road in Whitley Bay. They will be located there until 5pm on January 13, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A186 at Station Road. Until January 20, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A193 Allendale Place in both directions at Bath Terrace in Tynemouth. They will remain there until February 17, 2023.
Camperdown Industrial Estate - one lane is closed due to roadworks on A189 at A1056 Killingworth Way. The roadworks are located on the roundabout, near to High Gosforth Park. They will be there until April 7, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to long-term roadworks on Liddell Street near Clive Street in North Shields. They will be there until May 13, 2024.
Tyne Street in both directions closed due to roadworks from Union Street to Stephenson Street in North Shields. Until May 15, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A188 Benton Lane at West Farm Avenue in Longbenton. They will last until June 23, 2023.
South Tyneside:
Advance Warning - Barbour Avenue in both directions closed due to roadworks between Felton Avenue and Bywell Avenue. From 9am on January 10 to 5pm on January 11, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A183 Sea Road at Beach Road in South Shields. They are set to last until 5pm on January 27, 2023.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A185 at B1516 Park Road in Jarrow. They are set to last until 5pm on January 31, 2023.
West Holborn in South Shields closed in both directions due to roadworks from Laygate Street to Weetman Street.
Until 6pm on March 31, 2023.
Sunderland and Washington:
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1522 near B1287 Seaham Road. Until January 5, 2023.

No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Burdon Lane in both directions between Woodham Drive (Ryhope, Sunderland) and Burdon Turn-off (Burdon, Sunderland). Construction of the new Ryhope to Doxford Link road. The roadworks will be in place until August 11, 2023.
Redburn Row in both directions closed due to roadworks between Black Boy Road and B1284 in Houghton Le Spring. Until September 21, 2023.
County Durham:
