The free agents Chelsea can still sign after deadline day to boost Champions League hope

Todd Boehly enjoyed a hectic end to the winter transfer window as Chelsea higher-ups completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez in the eleventh hour. The Blues hierarchy held extensive talks with Benfica on deadline day in order to sign the 22-year-old midfielder.

Fernandez, who has signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract at Stamford Bridge, was the seventh player to join the west Londoners in January. As Chelsea look to mount a late push for a top-four place, they are said to have spent over £300million on some big names.

The Argentina international, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix (on loan from Atletico Madrid) are four players which Blues fans are looking forward to seeing share the field. But, while deadline day has passed, Boehly could still add to the Blues' artillery and make some more exciting signings...

So, with that being said, football.london has taken a look at the free agents Chelsea could still sign to give themselves a huge boost in the race for the Champions League qualification places.

Sime Vrsaljko

While the Blues may have signed Malo Gusto in January, the Lyon star arrives at Stamford Bridge in the summer. So, Potter is still in need of a backup option to Reece James until the end of the season.

Vrsaljko can offer Chelsea that support in the right-back position. Trevoh Chalobah or Cesar Azpilicueta are often called upon to fill in for James and, while they can be relied upon, they're not specialists in the final third.

The former Atletico Madrid defender can provide the west Londoners a greater cutting-edge until the summer. Vrsaljko is far from the answer Chelsea are looking for but he could offer more going forward than the duo aforementioned.

Artem Dzyuba

Ordinarily, Dzyuba would not be considered by Premier League sides vying for a place in the top four but Chelsea have a history of playing better with a target man. The 34-year-old would be a huge gamble and far from the Blues' project though, with his back to goal, he could provide a wall to bounce the ball off of if Potter becomes desperate.

He's enjoyed an impressive goalscoring record for both club and country throughout his career. Dzyuba is certainly a wildcard.
