The freaky Leeds Rhinos stat that has fans believing Grand Final glory is around the corner

Leeds Rhinos fans might be allowing themselves to dream after the club's recent run of form. Seven wins in their last eight games have propelled the Rhinos into fifth place and given them a heap of momentum ahead of the most important stage of the season.

There's a stat that backs up belief among supporters that something special might be on the horizon too. It hasn't been lost on those who have gone through the results archive that the last time Leeds Rhinos won five games on the bounce was seven years ago, in August 2015. That season was arguably the greatest in the club's history as they won the treble, with Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock and Kylie Leuluai bowing out at Old Trafford.

If you want to add to the theory, you can throw this into the mix too. Leeds' five-match winning run in 2015 saw them beat Salford, Catalans, Warrington, Wigan and Hull FC.

The five-match sequence of 2022 has seen Leeds beat Salford, Catalans, Warrington, Wigan and Hull... KR.

You'd have to be fairly superstitious to get too carried away based on that but it has certainly got many Leeds fans wondering what might be coming.

In reality, the Rhinos can't daydream. Their place in the play-offs is far from secure yet and they are at risk of dropping out of the top six if they lose to Huddersfield Giants on Wednesday. That's how tight the race remains in the battle to reach the finals.

It's another stern test of Leeds' credentials against a Huddersfield side that has already reached one major final this year and could end the season in a second.

Leeds' biggest area of improvement under Rohan Smith has been their attack. They were the lowest point scorers in the league when Smith arrived, now they are fifth highest. But the Giants have the second-best defence in the league and as a result, this will be the biggest challenge the Leeds attack has faced for some time.

The Giants did a number on the Rhinos back in June, posting a 30-16 victory that was more comfortable than the final scoreline suggests. But the Leeds side Huddersfield will encounter this time is a much better version than the previous one.
