The Four Tys in Llanelli has been demolished marking the end of an era

It’s the end of an era for Llanelli as the Four Tys have all been brought down.

The housing that has been in place since the 1960s will make way for new more modern properties to house families in the future.

Walters, the civil engineering contractor, moved onto the site to clear the homes away and all that is left of the homes aside from memories is rubble.

It is a major step forward as part of the local authority’s plan to regenerate the Tyisha ward along with the wider Llanelli town centre area.

A major cash injection is being ploughed into the area.

Councillor Linda Davies Evans, chair of the Transforming Tyisha steering group and cabinet member for housing, said: “The demolition of the Four Tys marks an important step in the Transforming Tyisha project.

“Although this process will evoke powerful memories for many of the people who have lived and worked in Tyisha since the Four Tys were built in the 1960s, their demolition will enable us to provide the housing and facilities that the community needs.

“Local residents and businesses who may be impacted by the demolition process will be contacted throughout to ensure minimum disruption.”

Green spaces and community facilities form part of the regeneration plan.

The aim of the Transforming Tyisha project is to increase community safety, develop housing and community facilities along with giving the environment a boost.
