Dele Alli looks set to be plying his trade away from Tottenham in the second part of the campaign with a January exit on the cards.
Starting the season in the team after working his way back into favour under Nuno Espirito Santo, the Tottenham attacking midfielder soon fell out of favour and has continued to find himself on the sidelines during Antonio Conte's tenure.
Having to make do with a place on the bench over the past couple of months, the 25-year-old was absent entirely from the squad on Sunday as the Lilywhites lost 2-0 at Chelsea.
Now with time running out until Monday's transfer deadline, it remains to be seen where Alli will end up playing his football from February onwards.
Everton, Newcastle United and Southampton have shown an interest in him in recent weeks, with Brighton & Hove Albion also believed to be monitoring his situation.
So which club out of the quartet would suit Alli best as he looks to get his career back on track? football.london takes a look.
Everton
Everton do have space to bring Alli in on loan with Anwar El Ghazi currently taking up one of their two domestic loan spaces.
However, what complicates matters for the player at present is that the Toffees don't have a manager and it's not clear who will replace Rafael Benitez at the helm.
The last thing Alli will want to do is join the club and then the incoming manager doesn't fancy him.
While Everton have played two up front on a few occasions with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison leading the line, they do tend to operate in a 4-2-3-1 system and this is a setup that gets the best out of the player.
Newcastle United
Alli has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle this month given their need to bring in players to help in their battle against the drop.
Manchester United's Jesse Lingard has also been mentioned in regards to a temporary switch to the north east but the Red Devils' demands could possibly now put a stop to that happening.
If the Magpies decide to end their interest in Lingard then that in turn may see them step up their pursuit of Alli before deadline day.
Newcastle have been playing in a 4-3-3 formation of late and that would see the player reprise his role from the start of the season when he started in a midfield three for Tottenham.
Maybe not the best team to join on paper given their position in the Premier League, Newcastle need someone to step up and it's the perfect opportunity for the player to show how good he is.
Southampton
A reunion with good friend Kyle Walker-Peters could possibly be on the cards amid talk of Southampton's interest in the player.
Saints do tend to play a classic 4-4-2 but that then raises questions of how exactly the player would fit into Ralph Hasenhuttl's setup on the south coast.
As Alli isn't going to operate as one of their two central midfielders or out wide, he would have to take his place in the front two, playing in a withdrawn role behind the main striker.
The position would suit him perfectly but Saints do have options up front.
Saints have also played 3-5-2 this season, which would allow Alli to play as one of the three midfielders again.
Brighton & Hove Albion
Another option for Alli could be Brighton if Graham Potter elects to make a late move for the Tottenham man.
The Seagulls have many admirers due to their attractive brand of football and they are also going well in the Premier League as they currently sit ninth after 22 games.
However, they could be sitting a lot higher in the table if they could find a regular goalscorer to turn their 12 draws into wins.
Brighton do create plenty of chances across the 90 minutes and Alli would be a shrewd acquisition for them with his late runs into the box.
Potter has used a number of different formations at Brighton this season but there would be an central attacking role there for Alli, notably playing with a midfield diamond at times and also opting for two attacking midfielders behind Neal Maupay.
Brighton may not be the most glamorous of names for the player but there is no denying that he could be a real hit in Potter's eye-catching team.
A move to the Amex could just be what he needs to rediscover his best form and get his career firmly back on track.
