The four Leeds United players out of contract in 2023 as Whites face big decisions

This summer could represent the first real significant turnover of players since Leeds United were promoted in 2020. The Whites have kept much of the same group of players for the last few seasons but on the back of a frustrating campaign, as well as a squad that is beginning to age, change could be needed this summer.

Since his arrival at the club, owner Andrea Radrizzani has not been afraid of handing out long-term contracts to players he feels deserve it.

But the Italian will have some big decisions to make as to whether he stays loyal to some of the promotion group, or if he decides it is time for change. So with that in mind, here is a look at the players at Leeds who are out of contract in 2023.

Luke Ayling

Probably the most high-profile name to have just over a year left on his deal is Luke Ayling. Ayling has been Leeds’ first choice right-back for the last six seasons now but is now into his 30s.

The former Bristol City man has been a very reliable performer for the Whites ever since his move in 2016, but has seen a drop-off in form this season. Ayling still continues to be a huge character within the dressing room at Elland Road, so it remains to be seen how Leeds approach this situation.

Adam Forshaw

After two-years of injury nightmares, Adam Forshaw was able to prove his fitness and quality this season to earn a new 18-month contract in January. Forshaw has been vital for the Whites in helping to cope with the long-term absence of Kalvin Phillips.

However, Forshaw is likely going to have prove himself again next season against added competition with Leeds almost certainly set to make some additions in midfield. Forshaw does, though, have an option for another year.

Sam Greenwood

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Sam Greenwood offered a new deal in the not too distant future given Jesse Marsch’s recent comments on him. Greenwood has impressed in his two cameos off the bench under Marsch, with the American claiming that he is the player who has adapted best to his tactics.

The 20-year-old has been a consistent performer in the U23s since his arrival from Arsenal in 2020 and now that he is proving himself in senior football, Leeds will want to get him tied to fresh terms.

Crysencio Summerville

Leeds will almost certainly face a decision on the future of Crysencio Summerville this summer given that he was keen on leaving the club in January due to a lack of game time. The Dutch U21 international has not played much since then either despite his superb displays in Premier League Two.

Summerville will not have a shortage of takers if he is does decide to leave and Leeds will want to avoid losing him for nothing the following summer. A difficult one for the Whites given his talent.
