The 'Fortnite' Cube Just Ended Its Journey By Melting Into Loot Lake

Fortnite

Alright, I have to say, I didn’t see that coming.

I have been following the saga of the Fortnite mystery Cube for weeks now, as it’s rolled all over the map planting runes and anti-gravity fields, but now it’s done it’s wackiest thing yet.

While everyone predicted that the Cube’s final destination would probably be Loot Lake thanks to some datamining, I don’t think anyone was predicting what just happened.

After rolling through Tilted Towers this morning, destroying the new building it’s taken all season to erect, the Cube sat at the edge of the dock on the west of Loot Lake, and at 4 ET exactly…it dove in.

As it turns out, Cubes and water do not mix. Trying to contain my laughter, I watched the Cube dissolve in front of my eyes into the lake like it was a block of butter melting. The end result is that the Cube is not dead, really, but instead has shape-shifted into the entirety of the lake.

Here’s the progression of how this went down:

And now as you can see, the entire lake is glowing and purple. And guess what else? It’s now bouncy, just like the Cube was. What used to be the most painful area to get across in the game is now the easiest. You can actually jump from where I’m standing in this screenshot and take no fall damage at all.

Is this the end of the Cube saga? I have no idea, but probably not. There was a rumor that the Cube was going to transform the lake into lava, but that appears to have just been a codeword for…whatever this is. Cube jello? Sure, Cube jello.

Here’s a video:

Where the Cube story goes from here, I’m not sure. I suppose this could be the end and we might just have a very bouncy lake for all of season six, but with still almost a week ago until season six launches, I’d be surprised if this is all that happened, and we don’t see this area transformed even further.

But while everyone seemed to know where the Cube was heading, if not what would happen, I don’t think anyone has any real idea what comes next. Last season, there were theories about what the rocket would do, go to space, hit Tilted Towers, but none of those panned out and Epic did something crazy with all the rifts. Here, we now have a giant interdimensional cube that has made a lake bouncy. Only in Fortnite, folks.

I’m a little surprised Epic didn’t clue people in to watch the Cube dissolve live, as it was really hilarious to watch, but perhaps there’s another “can’t miss event” coming that they will advertise like they did the rocket launch. Keep your eyes glued to Loot Lake for what comes next.

Or should I say Cube Lake.
