The Flight Academy where kids can try being a pilot this February half term

Young plane lovers once again have the chance to step into a pilot's shoes at Manchester Airport's Flight Academy this half term.

Kids get to board a real aircraft and learn about the different roles on board a plane at the airport's Runway Visitor Park throughout the school holidays.

There are two separate sessions running, for children aged four to seven and those aged eight to 12, with dates available throughout the break.

The Academy programme, which has been running for several years, is a firm favourite with young families.

Sessions take place on board the Runway Visitor Park’s retired Monarch DC10 airliner and youngsters can get a feel for what it would be like to sit in the cockpit and take control of a commercial aircraft.

Each session lasts for 90 minutes and a ticket for one adult and one child costs £12, with parking available for the full day for £5.

Afterwards you can head outside to have a look at Manchester Airport’s runways, watch planes taking off and landing and see some of the various jobs that you’ve learnt about in action.

Paul Emblow, manager of the Runway Visitor Park, said: “We are pleased to announce these additional dates for the Flight Academy programme, which is traditionally a key part of our offering over the school holidays and is always incredibly popular with families who visit us.

“The Runway Visitor Park is a unique attraction with a lot to see and do, so if you are looking for a good value, entertaining family day out over the half-term, do consider paying us a visit."

There's also a cafe and a play area at the visitor park. To book for the Flight Academy, or find out more about the other experiences and tours on offer, visit the website.
