The Flash Super Bowl trailer sees two Ezra Millers team up with two Batmans

The official trailer for DC superhero film The Flash dropped on Sunday (February 12), and it shows two Ezra Millers teaming up with two Batmans. Warner Bros. released the footage during the Super Bowl which shows the Scarlett Speedster fighting alongside the returning Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck.

It marks Keaton’s return to the role he last played more than 30 years ago in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment from the action-packed trailer sees Affleck’s caped crusader sporting a classic blue cowl while fighting alongside the titular hero.

It also gives fans their first glimpse of Sasha Calle’s debut as Supergirl – or Kara Zor-El. The film will see Barry Allen (Miller) travel to an alternate timeline in a bid to prevent his mother’s murder, and come face-to-face with another version of himself and two Dark Knights.

Also returning to the franchise is Michael Shannon as Man of Steel villain General Zod. The cast also includes Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Ron Livingston as Henry Allen.

In the trailer, Keaton asks Miller: “You can go anywhere; another timeline, another universe, so why do you want to stay and fight to save this one?”

“Because this is the one where my mum lives. I’m not going to lose her again,” Miller replies.

The film is expected to play a major role in the evolution of DC’s cinematic universe, serving as a reboot ahead of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new plan for the franchise. Gunn recently said the film is “one of the best superhero movies [he’s] ever seen.”

Andy Muschietti – best known for directing 2017 horror It and its sequel – helms The Flash, with the script written by Christina Hodson. The film has gone ahead despite multiple controversies involving Miller – who identifies as they/them – over the past 12 months.

In August last year, Miller announced they were beginning treatment to help with a series of “complex mental health issues”.

The Flash is slated for release on June 16.
